Maurice Robert "Mike" Gravel was an American politician and writer known for representing Alaska in the United States Senate from 1969 to 1981. As a member of the Democratic Party, he was the fourth U.S. Senator in Alaska's history. Gravel gained attention for his efforts to end the Vietnam War and for his publication of the Pentagon Papers. He also ran for president twice, in 2008 and 2020.
