Gabriele Susanne Kerner, known professionally as Nena, is a German singer who achieved international fame as the lead vocalist of the band Nena. Their iconic song "99 Luftballons" (and its English version, "99 Red Balloons") became a global hit in 1983. Nena later revived her solo career in 2002 by re-recording some of the band's old songs with her former bandmate, Uwe Fahrenkrog-Petersen. Having sold over 25 million records, Nena remains the most successful German pop singer in chart history.
