Maia Chiburdanidze, born on January 17, 1961, is a Georgian chess Grandmaster. She became the sixth Women's World Chess Champion in 1978, holding the title until 1991. Chiburdanidze was the youngest Women's World Chess Champion until 2010. In 1984, she became the second woman to be awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE and has played on nine gold-medal-winning teams in the Women's Chess Olympiad.
