Mahamane Ousmane is a Nigerien politician who made history as the fourth President of Niger. Elected at the age of 43, he became the youngest elected president in Africa and the first democratically elected president of his country. He served from 1993 until he was removed from office in a military coup in 1996. Since his ouster, Ousmane has remained active in politics, running for president in subsequent elections and serving as president of the National Assembly.
