Mae Jemison is an American engineer, physician, and former NASA astronaut who made history as the first African-American woman to travel into space. She served as a mission specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour in 1992, orbiting the Earth for nearly eight days. Prior to her career at NASA, Jemison worked as a medical doctor in the Peace Corps in West Africa. She is an accomplished scientist, educator, and advocate for STEM education.
