Jorge Luis Batlle Ibáñez was an Uruguayan politician and lawyer who served as the 38th President of Uruguay from 2000 to 2005. A member of the Colorado Party, he had a long and distinguished career in Uruguayan politics. He served as a National Representative from 1959 to 1967 and as a Senator from 1985 to 1999. Batlle remains the last president from the Colorado Party to date.
