Ieng Sary was a prominent member of the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia, known as "Brother Number Three" as he was third in command after Pol Pot and Nuon Chea. He served as the foreign minister and deputy prime minister of Democratic Kampuchea from 1975 to 1979. Ieng Sary was a co-founder of the Khmer Rouge and one of the principal architects of the Cambodian genocide. Although arrested in 2007 and charged with crimes against humanity, he died of heart failure before a verdict could be reached, leaving his alleged crimes unresolved in the eyes of international justice.
