Harrison Hagan "Jack" Schmitt is an American geologist, former NASA astronaut, university professor, and former U.S. senator from New Mexico. He is most notably known as the most recent living person to have walked on the Moon as part of the Apollo 17 mission. Uniquely, he is also the only person without a military aviation background to have achieved this feat. Schmitt's contributions span both scientific exploration and political service.
