Guy Verhofstadt is a Belgian politician who served as Prime Minister of Belgium from 1999 to 2008. A member of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives for many years, he also served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Budget. More recently he was a Member of the European Parliament from 2009 until 2024. During his time as Prime Minister, his political views shifted from neoliberal to more centrist. He played a significant role in Belgian and European politics for several decades.
